첼로 최경은

섬세한 표현력과 깊이 있는 음악적 해석을 지닌 첼리스트 최경은은 예원학교를 거쳐 서울예술고등학교를 실기 수석입학 및 졸업하였으며 음악상을 수상하였다. 이후, 서울대학교 음악대학을 수시 입학하여 4년 전액장학생 및 실기 수석으로 졸업하였으며 이후 세계적인 첼리스트 Ralph Kirshbaum의 러브콜을 받으며 영국으로 건너가 영국북부왕립음악원(Royal Northern College of Music)에서 Post Graduate Diploma과정과 Masters of Music Performance과정을 전액장학생으로 졸업하였으며 남가주대학교(University of Southern California)에서 전액장학생으로 박사학위(Doctor of Music Art)를 취득하며 전문연주자로서의 탄탄한 기반을 마련하였다.

학창시절 국내에서 음악저널 콩쿨을 시작으로 조선일보 콩쿨, Japan Kirishima International Music Festival Competition, 이화·경향 콩쿨, 경원대학교 음악콩쿨, 강원대학교 음악콩쿨, 한국음악협회 콩쿨 등을 우승하였으며 더불어 난파음악콩쿨 대상, 동아일보 콩쿨, 중앙일보 콩쿨 1위, 한미음악콩쿨 대상 등 국내 유수의 콩쿨을 석권하며 일찌감치 그녀의 탁월한 재능을 인정 받아왔다. 또한 그녀는 2017년 미국 Beverly Hills Competition을 우승, 미국 캘리포니아지역 순회 공연을 했으며 Julio Cardona International Competition 1위, Audience Prize, Contemporary Music Performance Prize 수상, Aldo Parisot 국제콩쿨 결선진출 및 RNCM Hirsch Prize 수상, 2년 연속 RNCM Concerto Competition 우승, Philharmonia Orchestra “Martin Musical Award” 수상, MBF Music Education “Myra Hess Music Award” 수상, USC Thornton School of Music, Symphony Award 등 유수 국제 콩쿨 입상 및 다수의 상을 수상하며 해외에서도 그녀의 음악적 두각을 나타내어 지휘자 고 임원식 운파음악상을 수상하는 영예도 얻었다.

Miyazaki International Music Festival, Manchester International Cello Festival, Kronberg Cello Festival, 영국 Prussia Cove Music Festival, Swiss Tibor Varga Music Festival, Piatigorsky International Cello Festival 연주, Montecito Music Summer Festival Chamber Faculty Concert등 세계 유수 다양한 음악 페스티벌에서 초청되어 연주하였으며 프랑스 Recontres Franco-American Summer Music Festival 초청 Nantes 및 4개 도시 순회 연주, 특히 제2회 호주 Adelaide International Cello Festival 초청 Opening Concert에서 “드보르작 Cello Concerto 협연” 전석 매진을 기록하며 큰 환호를 받았으며, Artist Series 리사이틀 및 마스터 클래스를 성공적으로 개최해 Australian Newspaper로 부터 큰 호평을 받았다.

특히 영국 현대 작곡가 Mark Anthony Turnage Music Festival에서 “Kai Cello Concerto”를 협연, 작곡자와 대중들에게 큰 찬사를 받았으며, 세계적인 지휘자 Yan Pascal Tortelier, Maestro Mischa Damev, Ewa Strusinka, Maestro Manuel Ivo Cruz, Matthew Wood, 故임원식, 임헌정, 김봉, 성기선, 구모영 등과 협연하였고, Macau Orchestra, Chester Philharmonic, Los Angeles String Project Orchestr, KCO(구 바로크합주단), 천안시향, 프라임 필 등과 협연하였으며 Juilliard String Quartet, Pinchas Zukerman, Midori Goto, Lynn Harell, Alexander Treger 등과 같이 연주하며 솔리스트뿐만 아니라 실내악 주자로도 이름을 펼쳤다.

2013년부터 미국 캘리포니아 El Camino College Cello교수를 역임한 그녀는 2018년 한국으로 귀국하여 전주비바체음악제, PLZ Festval등에 초대되어 다양한 무대에서 활발히 연주하였으며 경남솔로이스트, 헤이리챔버오케스트라 수석으로 활동하며 현재 서울대학교, 서울예고,예원학교에 출강, 미국 Montecito International Summer Festival 교수로 후학양성에도 힘쓰고 있다. 

Cello Kyung Eun Choi

Praised for her delicate, expressive and energetic virtuosity, Korean cellist Dr. Kyung Eun Choi enjoys an international career as a concert and pedagogue. She received her bachelor degree in Seoul National Univ, master’s degrees at the Royal Northern College of Music in UK with Distinction, and her Doctoral degree in USC with full scholarship under world-renowned cellist Ralph Kirshbaum.

Dr. Choi has enjoyed great success in prestigious national competitions including Dong-a, Joong-ang, Ihwa-Kyunghyang newspaper’s competitions and international competitions including the Julio Cardona (Portugal), the Aldo Parisot (Brazil), the RNCM concerto Competition (Manchester), Beverly National Competition(US) and received the Gold medal at Japan’s Kirishima International Music Competition. Dr. Choi received Unpa award given to honorable Korean young artist by legendary conductor Won-Sik Lim foundation in 2009.

She has been invited to teach and perform in many renowned cello festivals such as Adelaide, Piatigorsky, Manchester, and Kronberg International Cello Festivals. She also has been invited to perform various music festival including Prussia Cove, Tivor Vaga, Recontres Franco-American Summer music Festival, Vivace Music Festival, PLZ Festival and more.

As a soloist, Choi has performed in many major concert halls with renowned orchestra in Europe and Asia including Seoul Art Center, Suntory Hall, Miyazaki Prefectural Arts Center, Wigmore Hall, Elder Hall, and Bridgewater Hall with leading conductors including Yan Pascal Tortelier, Pinchas Zukerman, Mischa Damev, Eva Strusinka, Won-Sik Lim and more. She was a faculty member of El Camino College, now she is a faculty member of Seoul National University, Seoul Art High School and Yewon School.
